Catherine Huff interviews Dr. Manish Jha and Dr. Madhukar Trivedi. There has been a renewed interest in researching psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy for the treatment of depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders. But there is still much work to be done to understand this as a potential treatment. What is the mechanism by which psychedelics may work for depression? What are the risks associated with this kind of treatment? What has the research shown? What work needs to be done to have clear evidence of benefit and safety profiles?
Dr. Jha has substantial expertise in the conduct of clinical trials and extensive clinical experience in providing care to patients with treatment-refractory psychiatric illnesses. His research uses functional neuroimaging and affective neuroscience experiments to elucidate the neurocircuit mechanisms in order to develop the next generation of circuit-specific treatments for psychiatric disorders. Dr. Jha was involved with studies investigating ketamine for people with major depressive disorder.
